Everything You Need To Know About Invisalign Treatment

Not everyone has a straight, aligned set of teeth. However, it is undeniable that having a straight set of pearly whites offers various cosmetic and health benefits. Besides being aesthetic and visually appealing, aligned teeth are healthier and are less likely to chip, wear, or break than misaligned ones.

Invisalign offers an advanced, convenient, and accurate orthodontic treatment option with health and aesthetic benefits over metal braces for those who wish to align their teeth.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign system is an orthodontic treatment that corrects malocclusion and bite-related issues using a set of transparent and removable aligners made of medical-grade polymer using 3D computer imaging technology. As the aligners are made of clear, transparent material, they are not easily noticeable when worn.

What Does Invisalign Treat?

Invisalign treatment can effectively address mild to moderate malocclusion and the following orthodontic concerns:

  • Spaced Teeth

The extra space developed between the teeth resulting from an unusual growth of the jaw bone can lead to the development of periodontal pockets, gum issues, and periodontal disease in the long run.

  • Crowded Teeth

Lack of enough space in the mouth can make the teeth become crowded, making it difficult for all the teeth to fit in well. This will subsequently lead to plaque accumulation and tooth decay, thus increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease.

  • Crossbite

Crossbite can result from misalignment of the lower and upper jaws and can lead to unusual tooth chipping and periodontal disorders resulting in bone loss and gum disease.

  • Underbite

An underbite happens when the lower teeth push out far away than the front teeth as a result of the overgrowth of the lower jaw and irregular growth of the upper jaw.

  • Overbite

Overbite is the result of the overlapping of the lower teeth by the upper teeth. This condition usually occurs as a result of genetics or thumb-sucking habits and can cause jaw pain, chipped front teeth, and periodontal disease.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign treatment works by gently pulling the teeth into alignment. The treatment employs a set of custom-made, transparent aligners made from BPA- free plastic from computer-generated teeth impressions to shift the teeth to their ideal position using the right amount of force.

Is Invisalign right for you?

For people with mild or moderate malocclusion, Invisalign aligners offer one of the most convenient and comfortable orthodontic treatments. However, the Invisalign system is not for everyone. At Boger Family Dental, Dr. Zachary I. Boger and his team conduct a thorough examination of a patient's oral condition and degree of malocclusion, review their dental history and understand their goals to determine a patient's candidacy for the Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign Procedure

At Boger Family Dental, a patient's Invisalign treatment starts with taking the computer-generated impressions of their teeth which are sent to the lab to fabricate the set of aligners for every treatment phase.

Patients should wear these aligners for at least 22 hours a day as per the instruction of our dentist to get the desired results. Dr. Boger will monitor the progress of the treatment and give the patients new aligners for each phase.
