The Preventive Program

The Preventive Program

The main motto of a preventive dental care program is to identify and cure the little dental problems even before anything could happen. This is done to avoid any further dental procedures. Prevention leads to fewer cavities and oral health issues. You need to get yourself checked at least twice a year.

What are the preventive steps that a dentist follows?

You need to visit your dentist as per the scheduled appointments. The dentist will check you up in the following ways:

Digital X-rays:Digital X-rays play a vital role in diagnosing any dental problem. With the help of X-rays, a dentist can quickly examine those areas that aren’t visible clinically. X-rays can easily detect teeth cavities, also depicting approximately the depth of a cavity that extends relative to the nerve. Periodontal disease, cysts, abscesses, developmental abnormalities, tumors, and any bone infection can be diagnosed.

Fluoride:Fluoride helps in preventing tooth decay by strengthening the tooth’s enamel and act as better resistant to any harmful bacteria and acids. The dentist might recommend you to use fluoride toothpaste and gels to help in preventing cavities, also controlling tooth sensitivity. Fluoride trays are used in treating dry mouth as they prevent rampant decay, which is usually caused by a lack of salivary flow. But too much can lead to fluorosis.

Dental Sealants:Dental sealants are used in filling the pits and grooves of the teeth, making them easy to clean, also creating a barrier that makes them less likely to develop tooth decay. These sealants are tooth-colored or clear shaded resin material that gets bonded to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth.

What are the steps involved in dental home care?

The steps involved in the dental home-care are, as follows:

  • It is necessary to clean any food or snack that gets trapped within the pits and grooves of the teeth.
  • Brush at least twice a day using a soft-bristled brush or electric brush.
  • Floss your teeth at least once a day.
  • Get your tongue cleaned using a tongue scraper.
